Punchline

“Sorry”, the barman says, “we don’t serve strings here”. The piece of string walks out again, muttering angrily to himself. Then, he bumps into a kindly-looking passerby. “Aren’t you going to get a drink?”, asks the passerby. “It’s pretty sweltering out today” “Can’t”, the piece of string says gloomily, “they don’t serve my kind in there”. “I can help with that”, the passerby says, and quickly picks up the string, ties him in a knot and spilts his ends up so he’s ragged. “Now go on in again”. So the piece of string walks back into the bar, and the barman notices him. “Oi, you”, he calls, “aren’t you the piece of string I just turned out? You look suspiciously familiar”. “No”, says the piece of string, “I’m a frayed knot”.
